With the holidays fast approaching, preparation of gifts and baskets are happening at my house. The people I forgot about were the boy’s teachers! I love to do homemade gifts for the holidays since it feels more personal and because these were for the boy’s teachers I thought I would get them involved too. I wanted to make a sweet treat gift for the special teacher in our life. So I made Peppermint Popcorn Munch, Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa Gift Bags and Slim Jims.
So we went to Target to get my supplies. Have you seen the retro look of Swiss Miss hot chocolate mix they have out right now? I think they look classic and they fit right in during the holidays. I thought they would be perfect for the Hot Cocoa Gift Bags that I wanted to make; I also picked up some holiday shaped marshmallows. I picked up a box of Orville Redenbacher’s (butter flavor) for the Peppermint Popcorn that I wanted to make as well as a bag of peppermint flavored marshmallows. I grabbed some Slim Jim beef jerky too, who doesn’t like Slim Jims right? I am sure that their husbands will be happy to see that!
For Peppermint Popcorn you will need:
Orville Redenbacher’s Gourmet Popcorn (1 bag)
1/4 cup of butter or margarine
2 cups of peppermint marshmallows
Melt the butter and add 4 cups of mini marshmallows in a large saucepan under low heat. Keep stirring until the marshmallows are completely melted. Place popped popcorn in a large bowl and pour the marshmallow mixture on top. Mix until the pieces have been coated with the mixture. When the popcorn has been fully coated with the marshmallow mixture, add the mixture to clear grab bags and tie it with a ribbon. You can also roll them into a ball before you put them in your packaging.
For each Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa Gift Bags you will need:
2 Swiss Miss hot chocolate mix packets
1/2 cup holiday themed marshmallows
In the same clear grab bags add the hot chocolate mix to the bottom and place the holiday themed marshmallows on top of the hot chocolate mix. Tie with a ribbon and add something decorative to it.
While walking around target I found some holiday decorations and a tin to put my popcorn in.
